In Viña Canchones the tenth ninth version of the Harvest was made, where hundreds of people were able to enjoy artistic shows, competitions, handicrafts, gastronomy and taste the wines produced in the most arid desert in the world, where a new member of the family, the Spurman pilot of Vino del Desierto, whose processes will be optimized by state-of-the-art technology with contributions from the Regional Government.
At the event visitors were able to appreciate and know the wines produced by the Canchones Vineyard, the El Carmelo Vineyard and the wines of Lomas de Quillón, who from the Biobío Region arrived to the Pampa del Tamarugal to present their liquors.
Attendees were also able to visit the fair of more than 20 local entrepreneurs who offered various products, including some of them work with by-products made from Desert Wine.
During the event the attendees enjoyed a show that featured music from the ensemble Santa Cecilia de Pica, in singer-songwriter Leo Vilaxa, dances with the ensemble Irma Bascour, the UNAP Foolate ensemble, live cocktails of Desert Distilled, live kitchens, made by Los Diablos de Tarapacá and the career of Gastronomy of the University Santo Tomás, who offered a tasting to the attendees.
The regional governor of Tarapacá José Miguel Carvajal, led the ceremony of the beginning of the activity, where he said that we are here because we are highlighting one of our most significant research and development projects in the region, and by the way, to accompany this tremendous work that the Desert Wine team has done for so long and to its rector Alberto Martínez, because we have precisely an initiative that not only involves a research work but a work of a concrete product that is very relevant to the history of the Pampa del Tamarugal.
Carvajal added that as a Regional Government we maintain our commitment in this harvest to be able to continue to support the financing of the regional university but, above all, the financing understanding of the intervention carried out by the university supporting farmers and generating technological transfer so that they can have a diversification from their agricultural activities.
For his part, the rector of the Arturo Prat University, Alberto Martínez, commented that this is an activity that has become a tradition for our study house, but also for the region, where a large number of people gather who appreciate the history of the Pampa del Tamarugal and we have worked for more than 20 years for that, to revive and maintain the wine legacy of the area. It is a party that is being installed strongly in the heart of the tarpaqueñas and Tarapaqueños.
During the activity, the director of Desert Wine, Marcelo Lanino, referred to the prototype of foaming that is being developed thanks to the project “Transfer production and training of human capital for the elaboration of foaming,” a project financed by the Regional Government of Tarapacá through the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness FIC, which will allow the development of this product with different techniques.
This new product that we are developing has been developing to complement the work of years and that will allow us to transfer knowledge to our partners and so that they can diversify in their ventures, hoping that in the medium term they will already be producing this and other products, we began last year with the transfer of vines, work that we have developed thanks to the mining company Teck and now, thanks to the support of the Regional Government, we will be perfecting the process of foaming,” Lanino added.
For his part Juan Pablo Vega, manager of Community Management of Teck Quebrada Blanca, said that we are very happy to have participated as Teck Quebrada Blanca in the Harvest Festival, associated with the Desert Wine project. This is part of an alliance with the Arturo Prat University, which has been going on for more than three years, where the company has made an important investment with the aim of being able to develop and transfer wine knowledge to precisely rescue this productive activity that is linked to the history of the Pampa del Tamarugal, of the communes of Pozo, Pica and obviously develop a project with innovation with added value, in such a way that allows producers to be able to have a new business opportunity that is linked to the history of our region.
The project manager thanked the various collaborators who supported the event such as the municipalities of Pozo Almonte, Pica, Universidad Santo Tomás, Sernatur, Gasco, Aqualine, Samot Maquinarias and Grupo Panqa and valued the presence of the media present at the event.
